Post Graduate Certificate in Community Mental Health Nursing

The aim of the Post Graduate Certificate in Community Mental Health Nursing is to develop the learners' knowledge and skills in a range of community mental health-focused interventions, in line with Sharing the Vision: A Mental Health Policy for Everyone. This course aims to:

  • Critically develop learners' knowledge and critical thinking skills in a range of recovery focused interventions
  • Provide the learner with an opportunity to develop the knowledge and understanding of trauma required to competently integrate the principles of trauma informed care into their practice
  • Prepare learners to screen and assess those with mental health issues and secondary physical health issues and to respond in a timely and proactive manner 

 

This course is best suited to:

  • Mental health nurses who have been employed in inpatient psychiatric hospitals for most of their career to date and are moving to work in community mental health services. These nurses will require re-education and reorientation to a community mental health service.
  • Mental health nurses who are currently working in a community setting and wish to be upskilled with a refocused practice in line with Sharing the Vision: A Mental Health Policy for Everyone.
  • Graduates of the BSc (Hons) in Mental Health Nursing.
  • Nurses who work within practice settings that engage with individuals who may experience mental health issues.
