PROGRAM OVERVIEW

The Carpentry and Renovation Technician two-year college diploma program combines in-class learning with two co-operative education work terms. Students will learn the skills to handle tools, read blueprints, material methods, and construction practices. Graduates will also gain advanced skills in leadership and management through the study and application of quantity surveying, estimating, small business operation, scheduling, and property development.

Fanshawe's Carpentry and Renovation Technician program will provide you with the knowledge and hands-on experience you need to achieve your goals.

In your first year of study, you will develop a foundation of knowledge and hands-on skills with respect to tools, blueprint reading, layout, materials, methods and construction practices for residential construction projects. In the second year of our carpentry school, you will take your technical knowledge and skills to the next level with the study of advanced tool use, exterior and interior finishing, as well as an introduction to plumbing, electrical and HVAC. You will also build your leadership and management skills through the study and application of quantity surveying, estimating, small business operation, scheduling, and property development.

Prepare yourself for endless opportunities in the dynamic field of residential construction and renovation through Fanshawe's carpentry program.

The program prepares students for a career in the residential construction industry. Courses are designed to provide the technical knowledge required to perform the construction, estimating, and scheduling associated with the building of one and two-story houses, duplexes and townhouses.  A portion of the program is devoted to the acquisition of hands-on skills pertaining to the construction field.
