Cabinetry and Furniture Technician
The Cabinetry and Furniture Technician Diploma Program provides students with four different sections of training to start their woodworking career:
- Business skills to work with clients
- Design Skills with AutoCAD
- Cabinetry and Furniture Building Skills
- Restoration Skills
These combined areas will give students a competitive advantage with employers. Over 50% of the program is hands on, working with wood and tools in the Woodshop. Students also receive 6 weeks of projects with hands-on practice in the Woodshop as they build cabinets and restore furniture.
KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS GAINED
Each course includes hands on training in carpentry. For example, in the Joinery course, students learn about the pros and cons of using different types of joints, and then they work hands-on in the Woodshop to construct joints. In this way, theoretical aspects of program are immediately followed up with hands-on practical training.
At the close of the Cabinetry courses, students complete a 3-week course which is strictly hands-on called Woodshop Furniture Project where they work as a team to design and construct a china cabinet, reception console, book case, or other type of cabinet.
