Program Overview
The program begins in January and June each year and is 16 months in duration. It is comprised of four terms, delivered in a blended online and in-person format. All students must be available to begin in January or June, depending on which intake was applied for. Three in school teaching practicums (comprised of a total of 80 days) must also be completed. Successful candidates may elect to continue working while attending this program during the online portions. In class attendance is mandatory during the face to face component of the program.
This program is offered at the Hamilton Campus only.
Brock is relocating its Hamilton Campus to the former Robert Bateman High School site in Burlington (5151 New Street). The University will continue operating in Hamilton until the end of the 2022-23 academic year in April. Brock’s Teacher Education programs (professional/BEd years) will run from a transitional campus located at the former Lester B. Pearson High School property (1433 Headon Road) in Burlington for the duration of the 2023-24 and 2024-25 academic years. Programs will move to the Robert Bateman site once work on the property is completed.
Upon successful completion of the program, teacher candidates are normally recommended to the Ontario College of Teachers for membership and to receive their Ontario Certificate of Qualification. All graduates will achieve a single subject BBT basic qualification in Grades 9 and 10, and Grades 11 and 12, allowing them to teach at the secondary level in their area of expertise.
