English as a Second Language

Program Information

The Lambton Institute of English is operated by Lambton College, a public, not-for-profit Ontario post-secondary institution that provides high quality academic training in English as a Second Language (ESL) and English for Academic Purposes (EAP). This Board of Governors certificate program is designed for full-time students who need to improve their English language skills for post-secondary study. The program is divided into two categories. English as a Second Language (ESL) and English for Academic Purposes (EAP). The former focuses on establishing a strong foundation in the four skills of speaking, reading, writing and listening in levels elementary and intermediate. The latter focuses on using these four skills for academic purposes.

Following the completion of this Board of Governors certificate program, students are eligible for entry into an academic diploma or post-graduate program. 

Entry into the Elementary Level requires a minimum score of 20 points on the Oxford Online Placement Test, which is the equivalent to the CEFR A2.

International students are eligible to enter the ESL or EAP program and have a conditional acceptance to an academic program. Short-term specialized or institutional charter programs are also available. Please contact info@instituteofenglish.com for further details.

As a Lambton College student, you will receive outstanding services such as an intensive new student orientation and access to all campus facilities.

This Lambton College program is licensed to and delivered by Cestar College (PDF), a licensed private career college in Toronto, Ontario. Students that are registered at Lambton in Toronto are students of a public college and as such, will receive full credit from Lambton College for all Lambton College courses completed at the Cestar College campus in Toronto. Students who meet program graduation requirements will graduate with a credential from Lambton College. Students may be scheduled to have classes on Saturdays.

Lambton College reserves the right to alter information including admission requirements and to cancel at any time a program or course; to change the location and/or term in which a program or course is offered; to change the program curriculum as necessary to meet current competencies or changes in the job market; to change the pathways third-party certification bodies; or to withdraw an offer of admission both prior to and after its acceptance by an applicant or student because of insufficient applications or registrations or over-acceptance of offers of admission. In the event Lambton College exercises such a right, Lambton College’s sole liability will be the return of monies paid by the applicant or student to Lambton College.

Program Maps

Students are required to follow their prescribed program map and are not allowed to take unscheduled breaks for any reason.

You will need to login with your C# and password in order to access your program map.

Employment Opportunities

This program is designed to improve English proficiency and academic skills to allow international students to proceed successfully to Lambton College or undergraduate university studies.

Additional Fees

Medical Insurance

  • Medical Insurance Fee - $700 per year provided by guard.me
  • Medical Insurance is mandatory for all full-time, part-time, and co-op students of Lambton College. Medical insurance is provided by guard.me - a third-party insurance provider. Full-time, part-time and co-op students of Lambton College are not permitted to opt-out of the medical insurance fee as it is non-cancellable and non-transferable. Guard.me insurance costs are charged on an annual basis.
  • The health care insurance is for emergency health care coverage during one's study period and involves only a basic package. Not all medical conditions are covered and prospective students are strongly urged to review the coverage details prior to arriving in Canada. This will allow time to purchase additional coverage before departure, if needed.
