š We're Here to Assist You
Carpentry and Renovation Technician (Optional Co-op)
Do like you working with tools and would like to see the result of your hard work at the end of each day? Do you want to help build your community? Carpenters are responsible for constructing and improving every building from homes to schools to businesses. Carpenters' skills are in demand, now more than ever, due to the critical need for new housing, renovations to existing homes, and to support Ontario's growing economy.
The current workforce is aging, and it is predicted that soon 1 in 5 new jobs will be in the skilled trades. So now is the time to take a program that will prepare you for a career as a carpenter in the residential and light commercial construction sector. You will learn how to apply key concepts and hands-on skills in various construction and renovation projects. Plus, if you want an opportunity to network with future employers, and are eager to start applying your skills, you can choose to opt into the co-op stream to gain workplace experience before continuing in the program. In the first year you will work on the interior and exterior construction of residential and light commercial buildings. (Note, this first year is common with Conestoga's Construction Techniques – Carpentry). Then in the second year you will learn about renovation of existing structures, project planning, construction of common outdoor structures and operating a business. As a graduate you can choose to secure work in a variety of fields, and if you choose to pursue an apprenticeship as a General Carpenter this program may exempt you from level 1 in-school training.
