Module Sypnosis
The topics covered will be:
Listening – Understanding extended speech even when it is not clearly structured and when relationships are only implied and not signaled explicitly
Reading - Understanding long and complex factual and literary texts, appreciating distinctions of style. Understanding specialised articles and longer technical instructions, even when they do not relate to my field.
Spoken Interaction - expressing myself fluently and spontaneously without much obvious searching for expressions. Using language flexibly and effectively for social and professional purposes. Formulating ideas and opinions with precision and relate my contribution skilfully to those of other speakers.
Spoken Production - presenting clear, detailed descriptions of complex subjects integrating sub-themes, developing particular points, and rounding off with an appropriate conclusion.
Written interaction - Expressing oneself with clarity and precision, relating to the addressee flexibly and effectively in an assured, personal, style.
Written Production - Expressing oneself in clear, well-structured text, expressing points of view at some length, writing detailed expositions of complex subjects in an essay or a report, underlining salient issues, writing different kinds of texts in a style appropriate to the reader in mind.
Vocabulary Range - Commanding a broad lexical repertoire allowing gaps to be readily overcome with circumlocutions; little obvious searching for expressions or avoidance strategies. Good command of idiomatic expressions and colloquialisms.
Vocabulary Control - Occasional minor slips, but no significant vocabulary errors.
Grammatical Accuracy - Maintaining a high degree of grammatical accuracy; errors are rare and difficult to spot.
Pronunciation Control - Varying intonation and placing sentence stress correctly in order to express finer shades of meaning.
Students' skills are assessed weekly for progress in grammar, vocabulary, reading, writing, listening and speaking.
