Bachelor of Science and Bachelor of Arts in Sociology


A student majoring in sociology has the option of obtaining a Bachelor of Arts or a Bachelor of Science degree. See requirements for the B.A. and B.S. degrees.

Major - 34 semester hours


Advanced Elective Courses - 15 semester hours


Fifteen advanced semester hours selected with the approval of the student’s advisor

Comprehensive Examination


All sociology majors must take a written comprehensive examination during their senior year. Contact the Sociology Department office to make testing arrangements.

Minor Requirement


All Sociology majors must complete a minor of at least 18 semester hours of which at least six must be advanced. The minor field selected must be acceptable to the chairs of major and minor programs.
