MA Film (Production Management)
This Film Master's degree pathway in Production Management offers you the chance to kickstart a fast-track career in the Production Department of Film and TV companies.
The Production Management pathway builds on an applicant’s experience in film making, be it in professional or educational contexts, prior to their application for a place on the course. Portfolios should show an aptitude for film making and business management. This pathway specialises in production department work including production management, assistant directing and producing, which will be taught in classroom, through engagement with running projects with other students, and through work experience.
Learning from top industry professionals in feature film, TV drama and factual TV genres, you will gain the skills and insight you need to manage a film or TV production successfully, be it for an established company or one you create.
You will study in the heart of Cardiff, home to a thriving film and TV industry, including Bad Wolf Studios, Dragon Studios, Great Point Seren Studio Wales and BBC Wales, where shows including Doctor Who and Sherlock are filmed at their centre of drama excellence in Roath Lock, and unscripted programmes at their new purpose-built facility in the city centre.
Industry masterclasses, guest lectures and an in-depth work experience opportunity at a Wales-based creative company allows you to build your portfolio and network with industry professionals. Your work producing short films on the course will build up your experience and CV moving from the course into the Film & TV industry.
Applicants who are unsure as to which pathway they should apply for are encouraged to contact the course team for an informal discussion before making an application. Should you choose to apply for more than one pathway, your portfolio should demonstrate your interest and experience in each individual area and therefore more than one portfolio will be required.
