Online Graduate Certificate in Nutrition for Community Health

The UAB Department of Nutrition Sciences Graduate Certificate in Nutrition for Community Health is an online, four-course program designed for clinical and non-clinical health professionals who desire to further their education and training in nutrition science without pursuing a terminal degree. Research continues to demonstrate the importance of nutrition in the prevention of cardio-metabolic conditions such as obesity, diabetes, and cardiovascular disease. Coursework emphasizes nutrition assessment and education to enable providers to prevent chronic disease and promote lifelong health in community settings.

Students take the following four graduate courses:

• NTR 632 Nutrition Counseling and Education
• NTR 631 Community Interventions for Healthy Lifestyles
• NTR 618 Nutritional Biochemistry
• NTR 609 Applied Nutrition for Physical Activity and Disease

The knowledge and skills students gain through the certificate courses will enable them to incorporate the design, development, and dissemination of comprehensive nutrition and health programs into their own professional practices.

To enroll in this program, you must have at least a bachelor's degree in a field related to clinical or applied health. Students with graduate or terminal degrees in clinical and non-clinical health professions are encouraged to apply.
