Accreditation
The University of Bridgeport’s Graduate School of Education (SOE) received National Recognition for the Initial Licensure Programs from the Council for the Accreditation of Educator Preparation (CAEP) in fall of 2018. The SOE will undergo their next review cycle in spring of 2025.
The SOE will add to the next review cycle a review of the Advanced Programs. The CAEP Advanced Program Standards were not yet available in 2018 when our initial review was conducted. The UB SOE Advanced Programs maintain Connecticut State Accreditation through 2025.
The School of Education has received National Recognition from the following professional organizations for our initial and advanced certification programs:
- Elementary Education – ACEI (Association of Childhood Education Institute)
- Secondary English – NCTE (National Council of Teachers of English)
- Secondary Math – NCTM (National Council of Teachers of Mathematics)
- Secondary Science – NSTA (National Science Teachers Association)
- Secondary History and Social Studies – NCSS (National Council for the Social Studies)
- Remedial Reading & Remedial Language Arts – ILA (International Literacy Association)
- Reading & Language Arts Consultant – ILA (International Literacy Association)
- Educational Administration & Supervision – ELCC (Educational Leadership Constituent Council)

Tuition-Paid Internship
UB is home to the first tuition-paid internship program in the country and trains more Connecticut teachers than any other school in the state. UB works closely with 65+ school districts in Connecticut and Westchester, NY.
Tuition-Paid Internship – Option
- Save over $25,740 in tuition
- Accelerated Program – Complete your master’s degree in a year (12 months)
- You take classes at least two to three nights a week
- UB’s School of Education arranges your internship placement
- You intern full-time in a cooperating school during the day for an entire academic year
- You pay only for fees
* The 33 credits of master’s level coursework must be completed during the student’s two-semester, 10-month internship in a school district. Tuition will not be paid for credits completed outside of this time frame.
Interns will:
- Work closely with faculty and staff at your participating school
- Act as a substitute teacher
- Assist in school projects
- Mentor small groups of students
Scholarships
Richard Conant Harper Scholarship
Established by Dr. Richard C. Harper upon his retirement from the School of Education after 20 years of service to assist single mothers in their quest to become certified public school teachers.
Peter Gehrig Linabury Memorial Fund
Established in 2012 by his family, this scholarship is to be awarded to students changing careers to become teachers in elementary education.
Lauren Rousseau Passionate Educator Award
The Lauren Rousseau Passionate Educator Award was established to honor the memory of Lauren Rousseau a 2005 graduate of the University of Bridgeport School of Education. Lauren was one of the 26 individuals who lost their lives in the tragedy at Sandy Hook Elementary School on December 14, 2012.
Any student pursuing a degree in Education through the School of Education is eligible for this award (e.g., pre-service, sixth year, administrative, doctoral, etc.) by nomination of a faculty member and reviewed by a committee made up of School of Education Faculty and an alumnus who initiated this memorial. Lauren’s lifelong goal was to be a teacher. She had a deep passion for the education of children and a deep-rooted devotion to the teaching profession. The recipient of this award demonstrates a passionate for the education of all children and youth.
The recipient receives a $1000 award. It is possible to award two students per academic year if there are two individuals who demonstrate the characteristics of a passionate educator.
