This course is designed to prepare the dental hygienist in the State of Connecticut to administer local anesthesia. The participant will be introduced to safe and effective administration of local anesthesia through lecture, laboratory, and clinical settings.

Credit Hours: 32 Hours Total

  • 24 Hours Didactic (8 hours of study prior to course, 16 hours onsite)
  • 8 Hours Clinical

Participants will receive 32 hours of CE credit acceptable in the State of Connecticut.

Course content includes:

  • Rationale for pain management
  • Client management
  • Medical emergencies and review of essential anatomy
  • Physiology
  • Pharmacology of pain control agents

In addition, the participant will perform efficient techniques of pain management through local anesthesia on clinical partners under the supervision of qualified faculty. This course is designed to prepare the dental hygienist in the State of Connecticut to administer local anesthesia.

Upon successful completion of this course, the participant will receive a Certificate of Local Anesthesia acceptable in the State of Connecticut. It is the participant’s responsibility to investigate the portability of this course to another state’s licensing board as individual state rules and regulations change periodically.

Dental Hygiene Local Anesthesia Refresher Course

Saturday, July 9, 2022

This course is designed to review and refresh the dental hygienist who has already taken the full local anesthesia course and wishes to refresh and enhance their skill level.

Registration is Closed

Schedule: 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM clinical, asynchronous lecture portion to be completed prior to clinical portion. Includes review of new technologies in local anesthesia.

Course Prerequisites

  • Current US or Canadian license/certification to practice dental hygiene (RDH)
  • Current certification in CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer/Healthcare Provider
  • Current malpractice insurance
  • Completion of eight-hour self-study/didactic portion of course

Course Guidelines on Participation

Participants will be obligated to participate as clinical patient. If you are pregnant, nursing, have high blood pressure, medically compromised, or are otherwise unable or unwilling to be a patient you must contact Fones School prior to the course to discuss accommodations.

Failure to successfully complete all course requirements and competencies voids certification and course refund. There is no credit for partial completion of course. Full course fee and updated documents will be required upon registration for a future course. Fones School of Dental Hygiene holds the right to cancel the course up to one week before the course. In the event that the course is canceled, registrants will receive full refund of tuition. Upon receipt of registration fee and submitted documentation, the participant will be emailed specific course information.

The University of Bridgeport Fones School of Dental Hygiene reserves the right to alter dates, times, faculty, location and content and sequence of presentation for unanticipated faculty, student or college situations.
