DESCRIPTION

The BFA in Film & Media Arts is a professional training degree program to prepare students for careers in film and media arts. FMA majors use creative problem solving to craft narratives with subtext and emotional depth, bolstered by precise industry skills. Tracks of Writing and Directing, Acting and Directing, Writing and Producing, Cinematography, Postproduction, and Interactive Media allow for discipline focus and opportunities for collaborative projects of increasing sophistication.

WHAT SKILLS ARE DEVELOPED WITHIN THIS MAJOR?

Creative problem-solving, communication, collaboration, time-management, and storytelling aesthetics are some of the principle skills developed within the major and are broadly applicable throughout a host of industries.

MAJOR-FIELD REQUIREMENTS


Students must maintain a 2.5 GPA in the major

COMMON CORE COURSES


Students must complete 15 common core courses (45 credits) for the B.F.A. in Film & Media Arts.

TRACK COURSES


WRITING AND DIRECTING


In addition to the required 15 core courses, students must complete an additional 27 credits for the Writing and Directing Track.

WRITING AND PRODUCING


In addition to the required 15 core courses, students must complete an additional 27 credits for the Writing and Producing Track.

*Choose one FMA elective that is not required for this track.

CINEMATOGRAPHY


In addition to the required 15 core courses, students must complete an additional 27 credits for the Cinematography Track.

*Choose one FMA 400-400 elective that is not required for this track.

POSTPRODUCTION


In addition to the required 15 core courses, students must complete an additional 27 credits for the Postproduction Track.

*Choose two FMA 300-400 electives that are not required for this track.

ACTING AND DIRECTING


In addition to the required 15 core courses, students must complete an additional 27 credits for the Acting and Directing Track.

INTERACTIVE MEDIA


In addition to the required 15 core courses, students must complete an additional 27 credits for the Interactive Media Track.
