IV. Language Requirement (0-6)
International Business majors are required to complete a minimum of one year of college-level study in a foreign language (or the equivalent).
Students can fulfill this requirement by:
- Completing a two-semester language course in the Lewis University Language Program.
- Transferring to Lewis University the equivalent training from another recognized post-secondary institution subject to University transfer policies.
- Earning credits for acceptable scores in AP, CLEP, IB or other accepted assessment examinations can apply towards the foreign language requirement
- Petitioning to take a diagnostic test. Heritage speakers with formal language training may petition to take a diagnostic test in a particular language. Petitions for a diagnostic test must be approved by both the Director of the International Business Program and the Director of Foreign Languages. Diagnostic test will either: *Place a student out of the requirement. *Diagnose a student as needing one or two additional semesters of college-level study.
- Demonstrating English Proficiency. International students that can demonstrate English Proficiency will be exempt from taking another foreign language. English Proficiency can be demonstrated by submitting TOEFL Exam scores, being eligible for an English Waiver, etc. (Refer to English Department guidelines about how to satisfy the English Proficiency requirement)
