Advance your cutting, styling and colouring skills in UCOL's New Zealand Certificate in Hairdressing (Emerging Stylist).

 

You'll gain real-world experience in our campus salons, where you'll cultivate your own clientelle and build confidence in your skills.

 

If you enjoy hair styling and colour work, you'll love our annual inter-campus hair competition, where you can re-imagine and create a historic themed hair style.

 

In addition to the Domestic Entry Requirements, the following applies to international student applicants.

 

English language proficiency
International student applicants whose first language is not English must have an IELTS Academic score of 5.5 with no band score lower than 5 (or equivalent including TOEFL). IELTS scores used must be taken from a single IELTS Test Report Form (i.e. combining scores from more than one test is not permissible). UCOL is a TOEFL testing centre.

 

Under 20 years of age
In addition to this, international applicants under 20 years of age must have NCEA equivalency.

As a graduate of this qualification you will be able to:

  • Perform client consultations, including hair and scalp analysis in relation to chemical services
  • Recommend home hair care products to meet a range of client needs
  • Perform complex styling tasks, including blow waving, fingerwaving, setting and long hair-ups
  • Perform foundation scissor and razor cutting services
  • Select colour and perform a range of colouring and de-colouring services 
  • Assist colleagues with a range of chemical reformation services, including application and neutralising
  • Ensure your own actions impact positively on the profitability of a salon
