Bachelor of International Hospitality Management – Hospitality Management Level 7

The Hospitality Management major in the Bachelor of International Hospitality Management will give you in-depth knowledge of the way hospitality businesses operate. You’ll develop your decision making, organisational and strategic thinking skills while working in sustainable ways in a hospitality organisation.
 

Modules

Year 1

In Year 1, you complete eight courses that will start developing the decision making, organisational and strategic thinking skills to effectively manage hospitality entities in ways that are sustainable and people focused.
 

Complete the following Hospitality Management major courses:

  • FINA502 Finance for Hospitality, Tourism and Events – A Practical Approach
  • HOSP502 Applied Food and Beverage Management (Restaurant)
  • HOSP503 Organisation and Human Behaviour Perspectives
  • HOSP507 International Hospitality Management
  • HOSP605 International Food and Beverage Management
  • FINA609 Financial Decision-Making for Hospitality, Tourism and Events Industries
     

2 elective courses
You’ll automatically be pre-enrolled in your first-year courses, which include two recommended elective courses. In Semester 1, you’ll have the opportunity to choose another elective or minor or additional major courses if you prefer.
 

Year 2

In Year 2 you take the following Hospitality Management major courses:

  • HOSP611 Critical Hospitality Perspectives
  • TOUR606 Travel and Tourism Marketing
     

And choose one of:

  • TOUR710 Tourism, Hospitality and Events in the Digital Age
  • HOSP702 Hotel Management Simulation
  • FINA708 Revenue Management for Hospitality, Tourism and Events Industries
     

You also need to complete additional courses in your second and third year to make up the total of 360 points you need for your degree. You can do this by:

  • Option 1: studying Hospitality Management, one minor and electives
  • Option 2: studying Hospitality Management and two minors
  • Option 3: studying Hospitality Management and one other major (depending on your chosen second major you
  • may need more than 360 points to complete your degree)
  • You can talk to us about which option is best for you. You don’t need to make this choice until you’re at AUT.
     

Year 3

In Year 3, Semester 1 you take the following Hospitality Management major courses:

  • HOSP704 Strategic Perspectives for Hospitality and Tourism Organisations
  • HOSP716 Hospitality Innovation Competition
     

One of :

  • TOUR710 Tourism, Hospitality and Events in the Digital Age
  • HOSP702 Hotel Management Simulation
  • FINA708 Revenue Management for Hospitality, Tourism and Events Industries
     

Plus 1 elective/minor/additional major course
 

Workplace experience
In your final semester, you complete valuable workplace experience with an organisation (this is the Hospitality Work Integrated Learning course). It’s a great opportunity to develop industry networks and make a decision on your professional career after graduation.
