  6. Other scholarships / general scholarships

    • Swinburne also lists additional scholarships (industry-partner, faculty specific, research, etc) for international students. See the general scholarship list.

Eligibility criteria (common)

While each scholarship has its specific criteria, common eligibility requirements for most of the major international scholarships include:

  • You must be an international student (i.e., a person who is not an Australian or New Zealand citizen or Australian permanent resident).

  • You must be commencing a first time course at Swinburne’s Hawthorn campus (for that scholarship) — meaning you have not previously studied the same level at Swinburne.

  • You must meet the entry requirements of the course you are applying for (academic and English language). The scholarship doesn’t override course entry.

  • You must not already be in receipt of a Swinburne tuition fee scholarship or reduced fee arrangement at the same time. Swinburne will apply the most favourable arrangement.

  • The scholarship applies only to tuition fees. It does not cover other fees such as practicum/clinical training fees, Overseas Student Health Cover (OSHC), or other non-tuition costs.

Additional/Specific criteria

  • Some scholarships exclude particular courses (as noted above: e.g., nursing, aviation & piloting, certain double degrees, certain postgraduate health-courses).

  • For the ELICOS+ scholarship: you must not satisfy the English language requirement of your main course, hence requiring ELICOS first.

  • For pathway scholarships: you must be entering via pathway (Foundation, UniLink etc) at Hawthorn for the first time.

  • Although automatic in many cases, you should still check for “general scholarships” that may require a separate application.

Things to keep in mind (tips for you)

  • Since you’re an international student (based in India), make sure you choose the correct intake (semester), check that your chosen course is eligible (some are excluded from major scholarships).

  • Apply early: The higher value scholarships (e.g., 30% off) often have limited places.

  • Keep records of your academic results, certificates, proof of English language proficiency etc — even though separate scholarship applications may not be required, you will need these for your main course offer.

  • Understand the ongoing scholarship conditions: Some scholarships require you to maintain full-time study, maintain satisfactory academic progress, and not hold other fee-scholarships. The Reddit thread indicates you must maintain “academic good standing” and full-time enrolment unless formally reduced.

  • The scholarship only covers tuition fees. It does not cover living costs, overseas student health cover, nor other non-tuition items. Budget accordingly.

  • Always check the exclusions for your course (e.g., if you are studying nursing or aviation or a specific health course, some scholarships may not apply).

  • Even if you’re not successful for the major automatic scholarships, look at Swinburne’s broader scholarship list (industry, partner, faculty) as there may be separate application opportunities.
