Tahatai Coast School
At Tahatai, our vision is to empower our tangata to become stronger, confident, creative and connected, so that they can thrive in today’s society and into the future. We see difference as something we can learn from and become more open and knowledgeable.
Our learning and teaching empowers us to take action, to progress, and to look to the future so that we can help our wh?nau and communities to thrive. In order for us to thrive, we believe there needs to be a healthy balance between our taha tinana (physical), taha hingengaro (mental & emotional), taha wh?nau (family & social), taha whenua (land & roots) and taha wairua (spiritual).

New Zealand Curriculum (NZC)
The New Zealand Curriculum Teaching and learning at Tahatai Coast School is guided by the New Zealand Curriculum (NZC). The school provides curriculum coverage in the eight learning areas of English, Mathematics, Science, Technology, Social Sciences (includes Aotearoa New Zealand Histories), The Arts, Languages and Physical Education and Health. Tahatai Coast School also currently provides specialist teaching in the Visual Arts. There is a strong focus on reading, writing and maths in all years at Tahatai, as these important foundation skills support students as they progress through their years at school and through the curriculum levels. Children need strong reading, writing and mathematics skills to progress through the levels of the National Curriculum and be able to achieve NCEA Level 2 or above at secondary school.
