Program

  • AT SENIOR LEVEL

Students are supported in reaching their full academic potential through our personalised learning support networks. Every student has an academic coach who may be their form teacher, a dean or a member of senior management. They are regularly interviewed about their academic progress and where and how they can lift their achievement to meet their goals. Students at risk of not doing as well as they should are identified at key points throughout the year and given the extra support they need. Parents are kept up-to-date with this process through the Parent Portal. Weekly afterschool and holiday-time tutorials, up to scholarship level, are run by all departments.

  • IN JUNIOR SCHOOL

The work habits and subject knowledge needed to achieve success in NCEA are built at the Junior School level. Our learning progressions system challenges students to set goals for their academic achievement. They can track their progress electronically and are supported in this by form teachers and deans. For identified students, individual needs are met through the Learning Support programme which may include in-class teacher-aide time, a Literacy option headed by a trained SPELD teacher, and dedicated SENCO support time. Our dyslexia programme is nationally recognised and the needs of neurodiverse learners are met in all classrooms. Neurodiverse classes in Years 9 and 10 have hugely improved NCEA chances for these students. Combining English and Social Studies in Year 9 reduces class changes for students who have been used to a single teacher at primary school. A wide range of option subjects ensures students’ interests and skill areas are catered for and junior students who have a proven area of talent are offered the opportunity to study at higher levels. Year 9 Philosophy encourages students to think more deeply about themselves, the wider world and the way they learn. This is taught by the Principal or Deputy Principal. Through Technology courses, Year 9s have access to new areas of study such as robotics, 3D printing, or web design.

  • Käpiti Equestrian Academy

We can arrange for students to participate in a wide range of equestrian activities including show jumping, dressage and vaulting. We can also tailor individualized programmes to cater for students needs.

  • Käpiti International Aviation Academy

(KIAA) Located close to Käpiti College. It provides training programmes for students to be able to fly a fixed-winged aircraft and gain their Private Pilot’s Licence (PPL). Courses will be customised to suit student’s needs. There is also an aviation club based at Käpiti College which offers Kiwi and international students an opportunity to focus on theory.

  • Käpiti International Golf Institute

(KIGI) Internationally recognised golf professional Kevin Smith provides individualised and group coaching programmes for international students. Students will join the Paraparaumu Beach Golf Club and will play for the school and the club.

  •  K?piti College offers courses at all three levels of NCEA.

Students achieve credits through internal assessment and external assessment. Internal assessments are done throughout the school year and are written and assessed by subject teachers. External assessments are national examinations sat in November. These are written and assessed by examiners and assessors provided by NZQA. Because NCEA is based on accumulating credits through internal assessment over a period of time as well as external assessment, you need to keep track of where you are towards achieving your qualification. This can be done through the student and parent portal, or by asking your form teacher to show you your Record of Learning. Records of Learning are published with your school reports.
