Macleans College

Macleans is a really unique school with the wh?nau house system. The wh?nau house is an ideal framework for providing an effective environment for learning and growth.

Macleans College is a co-educational state secondary school located in Bucklands Beach, Auckland, New Zealand. The school is named after the Scottish MacLean family who lived and farmed the land of the school and surrounding reserves, and the school emblem contains the castle from their family crest along with six waves which symbolise the seaside location of the school. Metro placed Macleans College as the number one Auckland high school in 2010 among those in the Cambridge International Examinations system. In 2014, Macleans College ranked 2nd nationally in the Cambridge International Examinations.


Program

  • ESOL International Learning:

    Students who arrive from different countries often need extra English tuition to assist them with the transition into the New Zealand education system.

  • Gateway:

    The Gateway Programme was introduced at Macleans College in 2008. This is a programme offering structured workplace learning opportunities to senior students. Gateway is funded by the Tertiary Education Commission and is designed to strengthen the pathway for students from school to work or further study. This is achieved by providing students with first-hand experiences of potential career pathways.

  • Junior Curriculum (Years 9 and 10):

    A full range of learning opportunities will be available in years 9 and 10 keeping with the requirements of the New Zealand National Curriculum Guidelines. There is an Extension Studies Programme for students with exceptional abilities in Years 9 and 10. In Year 9 students are extended and enriched across a range of core subjects. In Year 10, the Extension classes are accelerated by following the Cambridge programme in English, Mathematics, Science, and Global Studies.

  • MCert

    MCert stands for Macleans Certificate. It is the Macleans College Year 11 Programme. MCert is a content rich programme that will prepare students for moving to either NCEA Level 2 or CAIE AS Level in Year 12.

  • Senior Curriculum (Years 12 and 13):

    Macleans College will offer National Certificate of Educational Achievement (NCEA), in unit standards and achievement standards, through to level 3. It will also offer the Cambridge Assessment International Education qualifications of Advanced Subsidiary (AS) and full Advanced (A) levels.
