NZCEL (Academic) Level 4- The New Zealand Certificate in English Language (NZCEL) – Academic Level 4 is offered by ICL Education Group in Auckland, New Zealand. This programme is designed for international students who want to develop their academic English skills to progress into tertiary education, university study, or ICL Graduate Business School. Purpose of the Programme Prepares students to study in English in an academic environment Develops the ability to communicate independently and effectively Aligns with CEFR Mid B2 level, equivalent to IELTS 6.0 Enables informed judgement of students’ academic English proficiency What Students Will Learn Students will gain skills to: Understand main ideas and details in moderately complex academic listening and reading texts Participate effectively in spoken academic discussions Write developed academic texts using appropriate techniques Deliver oral presentations for academic purposes Course Structure & Duration Duration: 16 weeks Divided into Part A (Weeks 1–8) and Part B (Weeks 9–16) Covers all four language skills: Listening, Speaking, Reading, and Writing Includes NZQA unit standards and ICL-designed units Learning Hours Total learning hours: 600 Classroom contact: 368 hours Compulsory tutorials: 32 hours Guided self-study: 200 hours Class Schedule Monday–Thursday: 9:00 am – 3:00 pm Friday: 9:00 am – 12:00 pm Tutorials: Monday–Thursday, 3:00 pm – 4:00 pm (Minimum of two tutorials per week required) Entry Requirements Minimum age: 18 years English level: CEFR B1 (Intermediate) or equivalent (IELTS, TOEFL, Cambridge, NZCEL Level 3, or ICL placement test) Valid student visa for international students Education Pathways Successful completion allows progression to: NZCEL Level 5 Many vocational, undergraduate, and tertiary programmes in New Zealand
