Auckland English Academy (AEA), one of New Zealand’s oldest language school, established in 1988.

AEA offers communication English programmes for students who want to improve their English for a wide range of reasons. Classes are run in daytime and evenings and offer students from all over the world classes tailored to their needs, in particular through an individual learning plan.

AEA also offers examination preparation classes, and has for some time been the largest IELTS preparation school in New Zealand. We also offer preparation for the Pearson Test of English (PTE Academic), TOEFL and LanguageCert. Whether you want to learn English for academic pathways or just to enjoy better communication skills with the rest of the world, AEA offers you a kind and caring environment in New Zealand, a gem of nature, geography and friendly kiwis.

AEA is situated in the heart of the Auckland CBD, in the ICL Education Centre, alongside its partner schools Bridge International College and ICL Graduate Business School. Many AEA students progress to ICL’s diplomas and master’s degrees after completing IELTS, PTE, TOEFL or LanguageCert.

Standard Course The Communication English course provides students with all English language skills including Reading, Listening, Writing and Speaking. We offer 20 hours/week Communication English in three 4-hour timetable slots or strands. The content of each strand is identical. The course is available at various levels from pre-IELTS to IELTS 7+. All IELTS Preparation students do a full mock exam every 6 weeks.     For pre-school or primary teachers with English as a second language TESOL Course for Non-native Speaker Teachers of English AEA TESOL is an intensive 5-week course for non-native English speakers who wish to teach English to pre- and primary-school-aged children in their home country. The course is interactive and practical covering topics such as: child development, lesson stages and the use of songs, games and stories. Students make resources such as flashcards, storybooks and worksheets and give presentations in the TESOL classrooms, as well as mini-lessons at kindergartens and primary schools.     Learn English and gain four weeks’ work experience in a New Zealand pre-school or kindergarten Every student has their own ILP (Individual Learning Plan) to help them manage your study. The Kiwikindy Internship Programme is part of the AEA TESOL Course. TESOL students get the opportunity to experience work in a New Zealand Early Childhood Education Centres (ECE). Students spend time in an Auckland based ECE, where they interact with children, and see first hand how a Kiwi teacher conducts a class. The course length is flexible depending on the students.     Learn a new skill AEA Evening Barista Course. The AEA Barista course is a one week (5 days) programme that combines both theoretical and practical aspects of coffee making and customer service skills. Over the week, students will learn how to make standard espresso beverages, practise latte art and have an experience of customer service. Classes are run at the ICL Education Centre Student Cafeteria. Classes run from 6 pm – 9 pm. At the end of the course, students are awarded a completion certificate from AEA.
