English
Everyday English 1 This free course is for people who have little or no English language skills. Ideally suited for new migrants and refugees who need to learn the basics in a supportive learning environment. Everyday English 2 This free course is for people who already have basic English language skills. Ideally suited for new migrants and refugees who need to improve their English language skills as well as those people who need to improve their literacy and numeracy. These courses will help ESOL speakers gain confidence in the use of English and teach them about life and work in New Zealand. Both courses are 12 weeks part time - 9:00 am to 1:00 pm, Monday to Friday. Who is eligible: - New Zealand citizens or residents - New migrants and refugees or for people whom English is their second language - People who are pre-literate or have low levels of English language and literacy - People 16 years and over Both courses are funded by the Tertiary Education Commission and are NZQA accredited and approved. Digital Literacy This free course will give learners a good understanding of basic computing which will help them participate in the modern digital environment or pursue a career in Information Technology via further training or assist them in gaining employment. The course lasts for 120 hours. This course is ideal for new migrants, refugees or for people whom English is their second language who want to learn the basics of computing. Employment Preparation and Placement Program. This FREE 8 week part-time programme is designed to prepare WINZ job seekers for employment. Job seekers will be provided with the necessary skills, certifications and techniques to successfully move into work. Job seekers will become proficient in interview participation as well as job searching skills required for employment in their chosen industry. Job seekers will also learn how to identify and talk about their skills, how to present themselves for an inteview and how to understand employability skills in the New Zealand work environment.
